A local woman has died after a fire broke out Wednesday afternoon at her home in the downtown village, according to officials. Melissa Watership, 46, died at Mount Desert Island Hospital after responding firefighters found her in the kitchen of her home at 9 Center St., Maine Department of Public Safety Spokesman Steve McCausland said in a news release issued late Wednesday night.
