Necessity is the mother of invention, as the saying goes, and Mainers are traditionally a resourceful lot. A merging of new social media technology and an old form of commerce is the brain-child of Katia Brophy, who created the Bar Harbor Barter and Swap Facebook page.
Brophy originally created the page to fill a personal need, but eventually it grew to fill the needs of an entire community.
