McEachern and Hutchins to close Bass Harbor yard, Bar Harbor store

A poor economy and its impact on the local building trades has prompted closing the doors on McEachern and Hutchins Inc.’s Bass Harbor and Bar Harbor stores, said the company’s president, Les McEachern.

“Been here a long time, but because of the economy, there’s no business,” he said of the Bass Harbor yard.

The Bar Harbor store is largely dependent on the building trade, which has fallen off, he said.
