Nova Scotian government officials have named Bay Ferries Ltd. as the preferred candidate to run a ferry service between Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, and Maine, officials said in a news release Thursday, effectively ending Nova Star service. Bay Ferries’ service between Nova Scotia, Portland and Bar Harbor on its boat, The Cat, ended in 2009 when the Nova Scotia government said it could no longer subsidize the service.
