As 2011 drew to a close, Mount Desert Island and the region experienced a delayed winter as temperatures climbed into the 50’s during the first half of December resulting in an additional wait for fans of snow and ice-dependent activities. In spite of this uncharacteristic warmth, a storm system brought enough snow to make for a white Christmas around the state.
